I Love the Lord Because …                                                  July 3, 2022

“I love the Lord because He hears my voice and my supplications.  Because He has inclined His ear to me, therefore I shall call upon Him as long as I live.” (Psalms 116:1-2)

What does it mean when a man genuinely says “I love you” to a lady he’s been dating for some time?  It means that he likes her so much as she compliments and completes his life as she finds he does her. In that realization they find it very difficult to be away from each other.  They enjoy talking and listening to each other and doing things together.  They don’t feel the same about going through life unless the other person is with them so they get married – a statement to God and others that they want to live together for the rest of their lives.

Sounds like the words of the Psalmist above, doesn’t it?  He states that he loves the Lord because He hears his voice and his supplications.  For any marriage to last there has to be good communication.  Such communication is more about hearing what your spouse has to say to you than in you talking to them.  When both partners do this then their marriage is bound to last as such communication reveals a genuine interest one spouse has towards the other – what’s on their mind, where they’re at, what their needs are, etc.  It places their interests ahead of your own.  It is an unselfish act and will be well received.

The apostle John reveals that God is this way with His children.  He says, “These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, in order that you may know that you have eternal life.  And this is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.  And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we believe that we have the requests which we have asked from Him” (I John 5:13-15).  Did you catch this wonderful relationship that exists between God and His children?  It is a relationship that promotes confidence between the Christian and their heavenly Father.  They speak, He listens.  Guaranteed!!

When the Psalmist thought about this awesome prayer relationship he had with God he stated that he loved Him because of it and would never cease from talking to Him as long as he lived.  When there’s good communication between husband and wife, their marriage will last and when there’s good communication between God and His children, their spiritual marriage will also last.

Only humble individuals will recognize that when the Almighty God, Creator of heaven and earth and Creator of all human and heavenly beings, listens to their prayers then they must be pretty special in His eyes.  The Psalmist said in the verse above, “Because God inclined His ear to me…”  What a wonderful blessing to know that in this big world that we live in, God is attentive to our prayers!

The ear of the Lord is just amazing.  I hope that God finds our heart just as amazing.  How about you?
