What Will Your Life Be Like Tomorrow?

What Will Your Life Be Like Tomorrow?                    September 26, 2021

“Come now, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow, we shall go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit.’  Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow.  You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.  Instead, you ought to say, ‘If the Lord wills, we shall live and also do this or that.'” (James 4:13-15)

Life can be tough when those unexpected moments suddenly appear.  How many times have you seen your plans get cancelled in a moment’s notice?  That abrupt change puts a halt to everything.  Goals and plans are all put on hold.  You know the feeling – it’s like when you have to slam the car brakes to avoid hitting an animal who has suddenly come out of the ditch right in front of you.  You sit there, shocked, and feeling your rapid heart-beat you say, “What just happened?”

This past week I got the news that a friend of mine had passed away. He was around my age.   I didn’t even know he had any health problems and the news of his passing shocked me.  I wasn’t prepared for it.  Unexpected deaths are always the hardest to accept.  I find they take longer to recover from in the grief recovering process.

It reminded me of the scripture above where James tells us that whenever we make plans we need to keep God always in mind.  Our life here on earth is short, shorter for some than others.  We are visible like a vapor and then we are gone.  We don’t know what our life will be like tomorrow, do we?

So, let’s always remember to make plans with God’s will in mind.  We are not meant to live here on earth forever.  We are but dust (Psalms 103:14).
